Irby Thompson is an industry leader in complex systems security R&D, with an outstanding track record of security product development and deployment across both government and commercial markets. Prior to founding Star Lab, Irby spent 10 years at Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Pikewerks – focused on the R&D of offensive and defensive technologies for computer network operations, technology protection, and insider threat. Irby also spent 7 years as the product manager and deployment architect for Electronic Armor, an advanced software protection and anti-tamper solution designed to protect critical military technologies from both physical and cyber attacks.
Irby has a technical background in computer science and cyber security – especially offensive reverse engineering and defensive anti-tamper, and is a recognized leader in the field, speaking at security conferences such as Blackhat and Defcon. He also has significant tech startup experience, having spent 7 years as the Chief Operations Officer for Pikewerks, a company he helped grow from the initial 4 employees through eventual acquisition by Raytheon. Irby holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Math, and Management of Technology from Vanderbilt University and a Masters degree in Information Security from Georgia Tech.
Adam has over 18 years of experience in computer security, including areas such as software exploitation techniques, reverse engineering and analysis of malware, intrusion response and analysis, digital and network forensics, and operational experience with the cyber warfare community. He is currently the Chief Operations Officer at Star Lab where he oversees a company operating system aimed at delivering high quality embedded security solutions to security-conscious customers.
Prior to working in industry, Adam served in the United States Air Force as a Special Agent and Computer Crime Investigator with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. In this capacity, Adam managed and resolved high-profile, complex computer intrusion investigations in support of Department of Defense and Air Force efforts to protect, monitor, analyze, detect and respond to unauthorized cyber activity.
Adam has a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Clemson University and is a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology where he received a Masters degree in Computer Science. Finally, Adam has previously been on staff at the University of Texas – San Antonio where he supported efforts to pursue and capture research programs related to cyber security, cloud computing, and data analytics.
Jonathan has more than 16 years experience with offensive and defensive cyber security across a broad range of platforms including: mobile devices, commodity hardware, specialty embedded devices, consumer electronics, large inter-connected systems, and automotive platforms. Jonathan’s experience includes vulnerability assessments and proof of concepts, kernel and hypervisor development on Linux/Unix/VxWorks, trusted boot, and the development of software protection / anti-reverse engineering capabilities.
In January of 2016, Jonathan led a team of researchers to first place in an Intel-sponsored automotive hacking competition. Jonathan has a B.S. Computer Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and a M.S. from Kettering University.
Michael brings over 25 years of hands-on experience in project management, intrinsic motivation, product conceptualization and sales to the technology space. Prior to joining Star Lab, Michael spent 8 years in the Navy as a Submarine Office running operational missions with specialized equipment, 8 years in the United States Government developing unique technical capabilities for sensitive operations, and 10 years in the software industry transitioning concepts and ideas into licensable products to solve industry security needs.
Michael has a wealth of practical experience. He founded and led Pikewerks Corporation, a self-funded endeavor, through start up, growth, expansion, maturity, and eventual acquisition. By seeing all phases of the company life cycle and developing multiple successful commercial software products he is uniquely qualified to help mentor and guide small to medium sized high tech companies as they grow into self-sustaining entities.
Michael received his Computer/Electrical Engineering BS from the University of New Mexico and his MS in Project Management from The George Washington University.
